Well… I certainly have.
You see, as a business owner, the worst thing to ever cross my mind is the thought of my clients one day leaving me for a better service. What if they were cheaper? What if they found a faster way to solve the same issue? What if they are just more valuable? (terrifying…)
I can never predict the competition. I can never see what other companies might do in the future to make my entire company look useless and outdated. So… I did some digging around.
I wanted to find out what the successful companies like Microsoft, Zoom, Apple, Wells Fargo, and Walgreens have done to retain their customers over and over again despite industry circumstances. I wanted to see what made people attach themselves to companies… and how that attachment was strong enough to create years, even decades of strong relationships.
Well… it turns out that these companies engaged in a pattern of giving. They focused on giving, and they wanted nothing back in return. Now, certainly that was not their core business, so how did they make it work?
They had a lot of marketing power. They had money, influence and a lot of people to help them spread their message.
So that got me wondering: how can I create that same effect? I certainly don’t have that influence or that sort of manpower. How can I take the extremely valuable content I create and deliver it without any major cost to help benefit the lives of other (and make my brand well-known)?
That is when a friend on mine (the current co-founder of ImpactAnnex and an experienced digital marketer) told me about Google Ad Grants.
He said “Hey Rey, all you need is to create a new arm to your business that is a non-profit and apply for grants from Google to get $10,000 a month to share whatever vision you have to the world”… that simple?
“Well”, he said, “you need to create a strategy for your non-profit, get it all incorporated, set up the marketing channel and your medium, then apply for the grant and pray that it gets accepted”…that sounded very tiring.
Since my discovery, I have started my own journey of incorporating a non-profit, getting access to grants, and create value that brings impact to others while giving me a peace of mind knowing that I am not just selling a service anymore, but building a valuable relationship that can last of years… even decades… to come. And I have repeated that process for dozens of business owners.
